Filipino Community, Beyond the World

The people of the Philippines are the foundation of the nation. Represent resilience and a strong sense of community amidst challenges, like poverty and political uncertainties. The historical background has led to an impact on poverty levels in the Philippines and has resulted in challenges in accessing good education and healthcare for a large portion of the population there as well. Rapid growth in population and urban areas has put pressure on resources and infrastructure making it tough for the government to cater to the needs of all citizens efficiently. It is essential to empower individuals through education facilities improved health services and enhanced social support systems, to tackle these long-standing issues effectively and build a resilient community that can lead the country towards progress.

The Philippines is working towards boosting its economy and improving infrastructure on a scale to address social disparities and foster a more prosperous and stable nation. The Build Build Build initiative is geared towards promoting growth through the enhancement of essential infrastructure facilities; whereas programs, like the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) offer financial aid to underprivileged families. The reason, behind these actions arises from the necessity to tackle the imbalances resulting from years of progress; urban areas have amassed wealth and opportunities while rural areas have remained underdeveloped. The 2nd December Movement argued that governments also needed the will to make good governance part of their mission mantra which they would do by reducing corruption in high places as a signpost. These are the problems that the Philippines hopes to solve for all of its citizens, no matter what their background or where they live can flourish. Yet, unless sustained political will and cross-sectoral society participation are gained there is no reaching these beloved objectives.

Relationally, on the world stage, our country is fighting for prominence even as it puts its place in a significant role within International Affairs with such strategic bottom lines of being near and inside Southeast Asia (SEA), notwithstanding following behind-great powers-status quo communities--uniquely balancing between emerging market territory, and maintenance. It is compelled to push its global cause because it seeks stronger economic ties, much-needed foreign investment, and the protection of overseas workers who contribute significantly to the national economy. What the Philippines is going through with China raises dilemmas that have long confronted other nations as well — among them how to interact and sell unto states, some highly powerful. The government now looks to build up its diplomatic ties, participate in international trade, and be a part of the global discussions regarding climate change and human rights. The country seeks to project a mature presence on the international stage and uphold its due stature alongside other nations so that it may be seen as an equal — or at least nearing equality.
